The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for general proteomics, single-cell proteomics, and small molecule analysis. We specialize in proteomics experiments, but we are open to discuss other types of experiments involving mass spectrometry. Here is an overview of our equipment.
Mass Spectrometers
TimsTOF HT (Bruker): In early 2024, the lab installed a timsTOF HT from Bruker for the high-throughput analysis of proteomes.
Orbitrap Exploris 480 (Thermo Scientific): In late 2021, the lab has acquired the Orbitrap Exploris 480 with FAIMS and BioPharma module. The instrument is now almost exclusively dedicated to single-cell proteomics experiments.
Orbitrap Fusion Lumos (Thermo Scientific): The Orbitrap Fusion Lumos was acquired mid-2019. It is our workhorse, which we use for general proteomics and other experiments where extra sensitivity is not critical.
Triple Quadrupole 6490 (Agilent): We use this mass spectrometer for targeted small molecule experiments, in particular if present in complex matrices.
MALDI UltrafleXtreme (Bruker): Our MALDI instrument is used mostly for the rapid screening of compounds, but it can also be utilize for spatial proteomics as we recently performed (link).
Robotics
TriVersa NanoMate (Advion): One of our goals is to eliminate analyte separation when not necessary. Direct infusion mass spectrometry is the future for high throughput -omics. We show here the sample injection using the TriVersa NanoMate, which utilizes clean tips at every pickup to eliminate carryover.
OT-2 (Opentrons): Our sample preparation is frequently performed by the liquid handler from Opentrons, to ensure reproducible analyses. We have optimized our sample preparation to pick up multiple reagents using the same tips, and then returning the tips to the original rack for potential wash/reuse. This is creating a significant reduction of plastic consumables.
Innovative sample collection
TurboDeccs (Medivac): We utilize the technology developed by Medivac (link) to collect Exhaled Breath Condensate (EBC). EBC is a non-invasive technique to sample individuals and perform diagnostics. The instrument is available for loans.
High Performance Computers
Our proteomics lab is equipped with supercomputers for the rapid processing and analysis of data. We perform spectra analysis with multiple software, and we are flexible with providing access to our computational infrastructure.
